Most Penalized Drivers (After 16 Races)

Race 16 - Toyota/Save Mart 350 Penalties

Save for a few drivers pitting before pit road was open, it was another fairly clean race in the pits for drivers and crew at Infineon Raceway. Casey Mears and David Ragan were two of the unfortunate drivers who were penalized for mistakes made by their pit crews.

Most Penalized Drivers (After 15 Races)

It was a bad day for Jeff Burton and the 31 Caterpiller team. Near the end of the race, Burton's transmission failed him. A late race penalty for too many crewmembers in contact with his car was the icing on the cake in what's been a disasterous season for he and his race team.

Race 15 - Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400 Penalties

There were only two major penalties in Sunday's Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips 400, the most painful going against Martin Truex, Jr. Truex's pit crew did not install lugnuts during a green flag stop and Truex was forced to return to the pits costing him a lead lap position. The penalty completely ruined Truex's day as he and his team were relegated to a 26th place finish, the first car not on the lead lap.

Paul Menard looked to be having a good day at Pocono in the 5-Hour Energy 500 until NASCAR caught him speeding exiting the pits on lap 48. Fortunately, Menard was able to recover and overcome the penalty to finish a very respectable 14th place.

Race 14 - 5-Hour Energy 500 Penalties

The 5-Hour Energy 500 at Pocono proved to be a fairly quiet race as far as pit road penalties go. Unfortunately for two drivers, Brian Vickers and Casey Mears, they both had two penalties in the pits on the day. It had to be especially upsetting for Vickers as his penalties came back-to-back. Vickers initally had to serve a penalty for speeding in pit road. After serving that penalty, he was called back into the pits to serve the same penalty again as he had sped again.

Most Penalized Drivers (After 13 Races)

Of drivers who have attempted to start all 13 races in the 2011 season, Carl Edwards is the one who's been the least penalized thus far. Edwards lone penalty came at Phoenix in the second race of the season and it was a minor infraction for pitting before the pits were open. Edwards chose to pit his car early after contact from Kyle Busch ended up causing a major melee on the back stretch.
