Jimmie Johnson's Lowe's Chevrolet pit crew made a costly error in Saturday night's Capitol City 400 at Richmond International Raceway. The five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion was penalized to the tail end of the field after his crew let a tire leave the pit box. Fortunately, the 48 was able to overcome the penalty to finish a very strong sixth place position.

Carl Edwards had one of the cars to beat in Saturday night's Capitol City 400 at the Richmond International Raceway. The 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup runner-up led 206 laps, the most of any driver on the night but his chances of winning were taken away when Edwards jumped the restart on lap 318. The resulting pass thru penalty took the 99 Roush Racing Ford off the lead lap and even though Edwards and his team recovered to finish 10th, it still proved to be a bitterly disappointing evening.

J.J. Yeley fell victim to NASCAR's radar gun as the JPO Absorbants Toyota was caught speeding entering the pits during a green flag stop on lap 41 in Sunday's STP 400. The penalty was the second speeding penalty for Yeley in the 2012 season. Yeley started and finished the 267-lap event in the 31st position, six laps down to the leaders.
