1984 and 1995 NASCAR Winston Cup champion, Terry Labonte was an infrequent competitor in NASCAR's Sprint Cup series in 2011. Of the 36 events on the schedule, Labonte started in only eight races. Labonte started seven events for Frank Stoddard's small team while his eighth start was in Front Row Motorsports #38 at Watkins Glen. "Texas" Terry's best finish of the season was in the Great American Race, the Daytona 500 with a 15th place effort. Labonte finished 34th in his effort with FRM due to transmission problems.

Even though Labonte only started eight events in 2011, he saw penalties from NASCAR in six of the eight races. Labonte proved to be a victim of wrecks in these races as he had to pit prior to pit road being open eight times. Labonte was caught speeding in the pits by NASCAR twice and two additional penalties for a commitment line violation and for smoking on the track in the Watkins Glen race. Stoddard and FRM's crews did their job the times Labonte raced for them as they were not penalized a single time.
