Saturday Night's rain-marred Federated Auto Parts 400 proved to be a quiet night penalty wise for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with only three penalties handed out. Clint Bowyer was one of the drivers who was penalized for pitting before the pits were open due to a cut tire suffered from contact from Juan Pablo Montoya. The 5-Hour Energy team utilized the misfortune to their advantage as they stayed out on old tires and took the victory, their second of 2012.

Number/Driver, Lap, Infraction, Penalty
#34 David Ragan, 53, Pitting before pit road is open, tail end
#39 Ryan Newman, 232, Outside half of the pit box tire violation/Team member not in contact with the outside tires, pass thru
#15 Clint Bowyer, 235, Pitting before pit road is open, tail end
