Race 36 - Ford Ecoboost 400 Penalties
No one was more aware of the tough mountain that the 48 team would have to climb to claim the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup championship more than they did. Jimmie Johnson and his Lowe's Chevrolet crew gave all they could to try to make up the 20 point deficit on Brad Keselowski but a failed rear gear sealed the fate for the team and any chance they had to catch Keselowski's Miller Lite Dodge crew. Adding insult to injury was a miscue in the pits, a lug nut not being installed which forced Johnson to return to add the missing nut.

Race 36 - Ford 400 Penalties
Photo by Tom Pennington/Getty Images for NASCAR
Sunday's Ford 400 wasn't the kind of day that 5-time NASCAR Cup champion, Jimmie Johnson hoped for. Besides having to give up his championship crown to eventual race winner and champion, Tony Stewart, the season finale was a struggle for the #48 Lowe's Chevrolet. Johnson struggled with carburetor problems, was involved in a spin just past the halfway point and had to serve a one-lap penalty for running the stop and go sign.
