Thanks to not pitting in the Sprint Showdown, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was able to pull away from the pack and ensure his being in the Sprint All-Star race. Penalties were few and far between as there were only four penalties in the Showdown while there wasn't a single penalty in the All-Star race.
