Race 26 - Federated Auto Parts 400 Penalties

Saturday Night's rain-marred Federated Auto Parts 400 proved to be a quiet night penalty wise for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with only three penalties handed out. Clint Bowyer was one of the drivers who was penalized for pitting before the pits were open due to a cut tire suffered from contact from Juan Pablo Montoya. The 5-Hour Energy team utilized the misfortune to their advantage as they stayed out on old tires and took the victory, their second of 2012.

Race 9 - Capital City 400 Penalties

Carl Edwards had one of the cars to beat in Saturday night's Capitol City 400 at the Richmond International Raceway. The 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup runner-up led 206 laps, the most of any driver on the night but his chances of winning were taken away when Edwards jumped the restart on lap 318. The resulting pass thru penalty took the 99 Roush Racing Ford off the lead lap and even though Edwards and his team recovered to finish 10th, it still proved to be a bitterly disappointing evening.

Race 26 - Wonderful Pistachios 400 Penalties

It was a long and frustrating night for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and his Amp Energy race team almost from the word go. Earnhardt was caught up in an early race incident that severely damaged his car. For pitting before the pits were open, Earnhardt was penalized to the rear of the field. He and his team were able to overcome that penalty as well as a couple other incidents to secure a spot in the 2012 Chase field.
