Race 8 - STP 400 Penalties

What looked to be a promising day quickly went south for A.J. Allmendinger. The California native started off Sunday's STP 400 on the pole and led the first 44 laps of the 267 lap race. Sadly, the #22 AAA Dodge's time at the front was short lived thanks to an engine issue. Allmendinger soldiered his car to the finish, a disappointing 32nd place finish 10 laps off the lead lap.

David Gilliland added another penalty to his series leading total of eight serious penalties. Gilliland was caught speeding entering the pits during a lap 146 stop under the green of the Samsung Mobile 500. It was a rather clean night both on the track and off at Texas Motor Speedway Saturday evening as there were only two caution flags for a total of 10 laps and only four penalties registered on the night, the fewest thus far in the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

Race 7 - Samsung Mobile 500 Penalties

What looked to be a solid night for Marcos Ambrose took a sudden turn for the worse right at the conclusion of Saturday night's Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Ambrose had his Stanley Tools Ford positioned solidly in the top 10 for nearly all of the 500-mile event before running out of fuel while coming to take the white flag. To make matters worse, NASCAR caught Ambrose speeding when he entered the pits, due to his inability to monitor his tachometer. Because NASCAR could not give Ambrose the usual pass thru penalty for speeding, he was dropped to the rear of the lap he finished the race, 20th place one lap off the leaders.

NASCAR's Most Penalized Drivers (After Race 6)

Jimmie Johnson overcame a lap 100 penalty for speeding exiting the pits to have a real chance of winning Sunday's Goody's Fast Relief 500. After narrowly losing the lead to Jeff Gordon thanks to a caution brought out by David Reutimann, Johnson's hopes went away when Clint Bowyer and Jeff Gordon got together going into turn one, collecting Johnson. The end result for the Lowe's Chevrolet driver and five-time defending Sprint Cup champion was a 12th place finish, the last car on the lead lap.
